A few days ago Ableton invited me to stop by at their head office in Berlin to show me the new upcoming Live 10. I have been playing with it and my conclusion is that this release is all about speeding up the workflow. I think its a good move from Ableton and I decided to share with you my Top 10 new features listed below:
.) When I saw Live 10 in front of me I noticed how sharp everything looks. Perhaps you don’t see it as much in videos online but when I sat down behind the computer I immediately thought to myself, “damn I can never go back to Ableton 9 after this” I also felt that everything is a lot snappier thanks to the improved 60 Frames/Sec UI motion.
.) Max4Live is now fully integrated. No more annoying start up logo for opening every Max4Live plugin.
.) Max4Live can now deal with SYSEX commands! This is huge for when you want to control your old synths with SYSEX for example.
.) Naming your I/O channels. It’s nice to know what input and output is connected to what gear!
.) Organizing your Plugins in dedicated folders is huge for me. Especially with big libraries like Waves for example where its not so easy to just install your favorite plugins when you bought several bundles over time. Now you can easily put them in your "go to" folders to find quickly what you need.
.) Automation, I found this always to be a bit tricky in the past especially when your’e editing your arrangement full of automation curves. Now you can turn Automation on or off by simply clicking ‘A’ on your keyboard.
.) Drum buss compressor. This thing sounds great! I really can see myself using this religiously on a lot of things.
.) A feature called Capture, This is simply awesome. I’ve had many moments in the past where I have played something pre-recording that was great but I wasn’t able to hit the record button. Now you can simply press the capture button in the transport control and Live remembers what I played! Even to the point of the bpm/tempo I played it in.
.) The gain knob in the Utility plugin build in Live can now finally go all the way off! Sounds like a small thing but its great that you now can use the gain knob for drawing your volume automation while keeping the faders free for mixing without messing up your automation.
.) Lastly you can now create Group tracks within Groups! Yes I have needed this before quite a few times
There are many more great features but these are the important ones for me. Huge thank you to the Ableton crew! <3
