In recent times, "sabbatical" has come to mean any extended absence in the career of an individual in order to achieve something. In the modern sense, one takes sabbatical typically to fulfill some goal, e.g., writing a book, flying a kite, picking your nose or travelling extensively for research.
As some of you might have heard already, I decided to stop my involvement in our beloved M.A.N.D.Y. band as of next year.
For now I am thinking about a 12 months break. Luckily Patrick is holding the torch and will continue the wonderful journey. First of all it’s nothing personal. Luckily after all those years we are still best friends and get along very well, but it’s gonna be nice as well to not always talk about music and gigs. It will be good to reach that level of friendship again without constantly thinking about what there is to do today.
I am so grateful for what I experienced, I couldn’t be more thankful for this life which had brought me to the nicest places and I've met some incredible human beings; and animals too.
After a great and busy year and after 15 years of nonstop travelling, it’s time for a some recreation and breaking the weekend pattern. I felt this need since quite some time, but in this business it’s all or nothing. And I love this!
So now I wanna travel a bit and stay at the places for longer, spend some real time with my beloved friends and family and not only when i do have a gig. I met so many good people and I want to enter their life more. Being a DJ can be very self-centered, so it’s important for me to change the perspective.
This is not a retirement, it’s just taking a long deep breath and reevaluate everything. The business has changed a lot too. Change is good, always, but it’s important to see and feel where my place is in this changed game.
I will focus again more on the labels and be much more involved in the A&Ring again. We are launching two new labels and projects next year, so there are plenty of things to do and achieve. The love for the music is still there and I am looking forward to have much more time to listen to all kinds of genres again.
And I believe it.s hard to tell a new story every weekend. It’s good to shut up for a while. My favourite idols and artists all did real breaks and they came back with new ideas and even stronger. So I am very happy about this decision and I know for sure I will benefit from it a lot.
And I still will play from time to time small little parties whenever I feel the itch :).
Unannounced and when the vibe is right. But the main focus will be recreation and getting new ideas and spirits.
And again, I really wanna thank all our lovely friends, colleagues, fans, dancers, party-monsters, club-owners, festival organisers and spiritual-guides for all those years of joy and fulfillment.
There are too many people to thank personally now, so
I won’t even start. But you know exactly who you are. And yes, you too!!
