It is alternately infuriating and painful to watch events like Charlottesville repeatedly take place from afar in my native country. And it is plainly apparent that the president of the USA fosters a climate where fear ridden white people have been emboldened to the degree that they can and will attack and/or kill people without consequence (police acquittals, "blame from all sides"). I cannot imagine what it must be like for African Americans to be forced to encounter statues commemorating hateful men who took others lives in the name of depriving them of basic human rights and a desire to enslave them. There are no valid defenses for maintaining these visual traces of a "confederacy" ; there are only excuses to perpetuate racism. Kudos to other cities/states that are initiating the removal of them after this horror (Lexington...). America has soul searching to do, and people being are presented with choices daily- do not make the wrong ones, evil abounds so lead with love.
Prepared for a British summer thanks to @marni x @stutterheim with my @doria1905 @lespecs helping too
Hey! I'm playing all kinds of music tonight with a guy who has had a big influence on me musically, Paul Hammond from Ultramarine- the show will be kinda loosely built around songs he has made that impacted me and give a bit of context- he'll be playing tunes too! Check it out
